Saraswathi
SaraswathiSaraswathi is the goddess of wisdom and learning.
She is considered as the personification of all knowledge - arts, sciences,
crafts and all skills. Saraswathi is the consort of Brahma who is the
creator. Creation is not possible unless the creator has knowledge of
what and how to create. This idea is symbolized by the marriage of Brahma
and Saraswathi.
Saraswathi literally means "one who gives the essence
(sara) of our own Self (swa)". Saraswathi holds akshmala (rosary)
in one hand and sacred scriptures in another. She plays veena (a musical
instrument) with third and fourth hands. The four hands of the Goddess
represent the four aspects of the inner personality of human being, namely
manas (mind), buddhi (intellect), ahankar (ego), and chitta (conditioned
consciousness).
Saraswathi Puja is performed every Wednesday evening in the temple. There
is a special puja at Basant Panchmi and also at the beginning of school
year by the students and their parents.
