An Invitation for your participation

SATSANG: Starting Sunday, January 6th, 2002 at 3:00 (- 4:00) PM, there will be a Discourse / discussion, every other week (1st & 3rd Sunday), on Bhagavad-Gita, by Dr. Vijendran Rao at Hindu Samaj Temple.

Initial lecture will be on the "Relevance of Geeta in today's world". All are invited for active participation. These discussions will be formatted to accommodate majorityof the participant's interest. Please contact one of the following for additional information or with suggestions:

A Brief Background of Dr. Vijendran Rao:

A Scientist, Teacher and Technologist by profession, Dr. Vijendranrao, aged 66, was associated with Babha Atomic Research Center, Bombay; Cornell University, USA and currently a Vice- President of a Hi-Tech Company located in the Hudson Valley. He is a local resident and a member of Hindu Samaj. Though legally blind (with very poor eye-sight), he has a clear vision in life, to give something back to the society from which, he believes, he has gained so much. He has been a student of Hindu Philosophy, Religion and Culture since his childhood. Was initiated into Bhagawad Geeta and other Indian Texts by his father, he has been over the decades involved in not only studying but analyzing and interpreting Hindu Philosophy. He has been influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Swami Chinmayananda to a great extent but has his own views and ideas on many of the aspects of Hinduism due to his scientific background and interaction with various levels of society both in India and in USA. He has given a one-year weekly lecture series on Bhagawad Geeta to a group of Indians in Corvallis, Oregon. He has given lectures on Relevance of Geeta in today's world to senior citizens groups. He also gave a Lecture on Geeta under the auspices of Hindu University, Orlando, Florida. Currently, for the past number of months, he has been sending daily Geeta interpretations, 'Geeta-philosophy for the day', by email, to a large number of interested people. He feels that the invaluable treasure of Indian thoughts should be propagated, first to Indians to make them lead a more contented, happy and harmonious life without sacrificing the material prosperity and ambitions in life. The main thrust of his efforts is to invigorate the youth.

PS: Hope to see you all at Satsang on 1st & 3rd Sundays @ 3PM at Hindu Samaj Temple. In case it snows over 2-3 inches, the Program will be postponed to the following week, you may call one of the phone numbers provided to confirm delay or cancellation. And as it stands now, it will continue (on 1st and 3rd Sundays) for about six sessions. Continuation of this Program beyond that depends on Sri Rao's availability and Community interest. Please feel free to spread the word by forwarding this page. We started this Program with "Sat" and we need "Sung" to make it a success and fulfilling. Also, please note, Dr.Rao is interested to provide lectures to Young Adults and Children. If any body is interested please contact any one of the above or your Youth Program coordinators at the Temple.
